Celebrating 30 Years of Transforming Lives
|
In 1981, under the guidance of transplant pioneer Dr. Thomas E. Starzl, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh established the first pediatric transplantation center in the United States.
Since then, Children's Hospital's pediatric transplant surgeons have performed more organ transplants than any other transplant center.
Among the best survival rates in the world, Children's transplant program continues to offer young patients - like liver transplant survivor Carleigh Plotts, 5 – and their families, not only health, but hope.
30th Anniversary Celebration Events
For more than 30 years, the Hillman Center for Pediatric Transplantation at Children's Hosptial of Pittsburgh of UPMC and the Starzl Transplant Institute have defined the field of transplantation. In 2011, we commemorated Dr. Thomas E. Starzl’s pioneering spirit and three decades of growth and innovation with some exciting special events.
Other events sponsored by the Starzl Transplant Institute for patients and families included the following:
- Research That Matters
- Starzl Prize Lecture
- 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
