Renal Tumors, Treatment of High-Risk Tumors - Phase II

Combination Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, and/or Surgery in Treating Patients With High-Risk Kidney Tumors

Protocol Description

The purpose of this Children's Oncology Group Phase II study is to examine how well combination chemotherapy (multiple drugs), radiation therapy and/or surgery work in treating patients with high-risk kidney tumors. The study has several distinct paths of treatment that vary according to the stage and type of tumor involved.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible candidates include patients up to age 30 who have been diagnosed with specific types of renal tumors, some of which may have been removed. Subject to additional study criteria, tumors may include focal or diffuse anaplastic Wilms tumor; clear cell sarcoma of the kidney; malignant rhabdoid tumor and renal cell carcinoma.
Males: Up to age 30
Females: Up to age 30

Requirements
Except for the observation group, in which patients have their tumors removed prior to enrollment and require no additional therapy, participants will receive chemotherapy according to study parameters. Some will also get radiation therapy.
Visits: Variable in number, depending on treatment
Duration: Following treatment, participants will continue to have examinations up to 5 years and their health will be tracked for an additional 5 years.
