Hospital Volunteer Program
We have more than 50 different hospital assignments that provide volunteers with activities ranging from direct interaction with children, such as reading a book or playing a game, to helping families find their way around the facility, answering general questions.
All hospital volunteers are carefully screened, trained, given appropriate assignments and required to follow hospital policies and procedures. For volunteers over the age of 18, the screening process includes a criminal background check, child abuse clearances, health and immunization screening, an interview and orientation training. We take the time to do it right in order to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and families. The screening and training process also gives the volunteer the confidence needed for a successful experience.
Individual Volunteer Opportunities
A variety of hospital volunteer opportunities are available. A specific assignment will be determined based on our prioritized needs at the time of your interview, your availability, interests, and identifying the best placement for each individual volunteer. Typically, hospital assignments can be divided into two categories:
- Direct Care – These assignments offer direct interaction with our patients and families.
- Indirect Care – These assignments provide wonderful support to children, their families and our professional staff.
We sincerely appreciate your interest in contributing your time and talent to help the kids and families at Children’s. Due to the large number of volunteer applications that we have received in recent months, applications submitted after December 1, 2012 will be reviewed beginning February 15, 2013.Your patience during this exceptionally busy time is appreciated and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers in March 2013.
We prioritize all volunteer applications and requests based on our needs to provide services that are most critical to serving the needs and assisting our patients and their families. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact the Volunteer Services office.
