Nomination Criteria for Mermelstein Award

Criteria for the Honoree of the Howard A. Mermelstein, MD, Award for Excellence in Pediatrics

Recipient must:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the betterment of the profession
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching
  • Be loved by his/her patient  
  • Demonstrate integrity recognized by his/her peers 
  • Be active in the community

In addition:

  • The recipient must have some connection to the Pittsburgh area, although may have since left.
  • The award should alternate yearly between community-based physicians and academic institution-based physicians, although not strictly binding. 
  • If no suitable candidates are identified, committee may suspend the award for that particular year.
