Laryngomalacia Quality of Life Study
Evaluating the Health-Related Quality of Life in Children Diagnosed with Laryngomalacia: A Comparison Between Levels of Severity and Treatment Options
Protocol Description
This study will evaluate the quality of life in infants who have been diagnosed with laryngomalacia and parents’ perception of their child’s health. Infantile laryngomalacia is a partial airway obstruction caused by floppiness of part of the larynx, resulting in a high-pitched noise on inhalation (inspiratory stridor) and sometimes feeding difficulties. In this study parents will complete questionnaires, providing information that will be related to information in the child’s medical records.
Eligibility Criteria
Subject to certain exclusion criteria, children of both genders under 2 years of age with the diagnosis of laryngomalacia and who are being followed at the Aerodigestive Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC are eligible.
Boys: Under 2 years old
Girls: Under 2 years old
Requirements
Parents fill out a pair of questionnaires quarterly, during a 1-year period beginning at the visit when laryngomalacia is diagnosed. The second through fourth questionnaires can be completed during office visits or over the telephone.
Visits: None beyond normal clinical care.
Duration: 1 year
Status: Open for Enrollment
