Occupational Therapy
Description of Services
The Occupational Therapy Department provides comprehensive services to assist infants, children and adolescents with their daily living skills, including fine motor activities, dressing, feeding, etc. Licensed occupational therapists with expertise in pediatrics work with the child and family to develop goals that optimize the child’s functional abilities with his or her daily living skills. All children referred to the department receive an individual assessment to identify impairments and limitations that interfere with the child’s functional skills. A treatment plan with individualized goals is developed in collaboration with child and family.
Pediatric occupational therapists at Children’s assess and provide treatment services for children with diagnoses such as:
- Amputation
- Arthritis
- Autism
- Developmental delay
- Feeding disorders
- Hand injuries
- Neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, brain tumor, traumatic brain injury
- Visual motor and/or visual perceptual impairments
Treatment interventions are individualized and include a variety of methods and modalities that incorporate current theories and equipment that optimizes patient progress and outcomes.
Referral Requirements
Referrals are required from the child’s primary care physician or specialty physician service. Insurance authorization may be required for children who are enrolled in a managed care insurance plan. For more information, please call the office number.
