Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship

Recruiting Fellows for July 2012

The Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship program is a two-year ACGME (#3464131017) accredited clinical and research fellowship offered by the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Fellowship training is centered at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and The Children’s Institute, two leading pediatric health centers in Pittsburgh.

The applicant should be trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation and be Board Certified/Board Eligible.

The recently opened, award winning Children’s Hospital serves as the site for training in acute care pediatrics, outpatient pediatrics, subspecialty pediatrics, and acute care inpatient rehabilitation consults. Children’s is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and was one of only eight pediatric hospitals in the United States named to U.S. News & World Report's 2010 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll.

The Children’s Institute is a free-standing, independent pediatric rehabilitation facility with an inpatient unit, outpatient facilities, and an accredited private day school. The Children’s Institute is the site of a three month rotation in the first and second years of the fellowship.

Opportunities for exposure to various domains of the practice of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine include:

Acute care inpatient PM&R consults
Acute inpatient rehabilitation
Outpatient continuity clinic
Outpatient multidisciplinary clinics in cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spasticity, neuromuscular disease
Assignments and electives in various related pediatric subspecialties
Community based off-site clinics

The fellow will participate in inpatient and outpatient staffing conferences. Lectures designed for the fellow will be presented twice a month and a journal club will meet once a month. Participation in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center PM&R residency program research meetings, didactics and journal clubs is recommended. At Children’s, the fellow will have the opportunity to participate in education activities for the pediatric residents, neurodevelopment fellows, neurology fellows, rheumatology fellows, and neurosurgery residents.
