Our Services
Perfusion Services
Description of Services
The Perfusion Services Department is a part of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Perfusion services are provided to patients who are having open heart surgery. The perfusionist operates the heart/lung bypass machine, which provides life support to the patient while he or she is having surgery. The perfusionists also are responsible for the Cardiac STAT Lab. When needed, perfusionists provide ancillary support to other departments, such as Orthopaedic Surgery, for cell conservation and lab work.
Referral Requirements
Patients are not referred directly to Perfusion Services but receive this service in conjunction with the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Department. For more information, see the referral requirements for Pediatric Cardiology.
