Below is a listing of events and activities designed specifically for children with sickle cell disease and their families.

Camp Escape 

Watch for dates for Children’s annual Camp Escape for sickle cell patients. Camp Escape is offered for patients ages 6–16 at The Woodlands in Wexford, Pa.  The camp is staffed by full-time counselors and instructors who have special needs training. Sickle Cell Program staff work closely with camp personnel on training issues, and the Sickle Cell Program nurses and doctors provide around-the-clock medical care during the six-day camp.  For more information about Camp Escape, please contact Tia Martin, MSW, at 412-692-6072 or tia.martin@chp.edu

Annual Holiday Party

The Sickle Cell Team hosts an annual Holiday Party open to all patients with sickle cell disease and their families. The party is held the first Wednesday in December from 4–7 p.m., in the "B Floor" Conference Area of Children's Hospital. Great food, entertainment, old friends, new friends, gifts for the kids from Santa and good cheer can be found. Come and join us. Annual Day at Kennywood Park

Learn-To-Swim Program

The Learn-to-Swim Program meets every month for swim lessons for all patients with sickle cell disease and their families. Lessons are held at the Allegheny YMCA at 600 West North Avenue. Please call 412-537-8973 to register.
