Grow clinical programs with emphasis on service lines with significant opportunity for enhanced community benefit, market share and financial viability. Actively pursue growth opportunities in regional, national and international markets.

Become a “high-reliability” organization characterized by a focus on organizational learning, continuous improvement and strategic use of automation and computer-based technologies. Enhance safety and quality by performing and learning from proactive risk assessments at both the individual patient and organizational levels.

3. Customer Loyalty
Wow patients, families and referring physicians with the timeliness and ease of accessing Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC's outpatient, inpatient and emergency services. Continuously improve communication, teamwork and coordination of care in order to exceed customer expectations on a daily basis.

4. Work Environment/Operations
Create a strong sense of organizational pride and commitment, which stems from each person feeling supported, valued, challenged and empowered to achieve professional excellence. Deliver timely, efficient, clinically appropriate, cost-effective care throughout Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

5. Academic Achievements
Capitalize on our existing teaching expertise, and create innovative, new pediatric medical education programs that enable us to recruit, develop and retain the most talented pediatric healthcare professionals and future leaders of their respective fields. Enhance the results of our current basic, translational and clinical research programs and to establish new programs that lead to the most important discoveries for improving the health of children and that bring both international attention and extramural funding to Children’s Hospital.

6. New Hospital Project
Complete the design and construction of the new, state-of-the-art Lawrenceville campus, and successfully transition operations from Oakland to Lawrenceville.

7. Financial Performance
Generate sufficient excess funds from operations to enable Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to fulfill its community-based missions. These excess funds will be used to: 1) maintain and develop world-class pediatric clinical programs; 2) pursue academic excellence in research and education; and 3) continuously upgrade our facilities, equipment and information technology.
