Service Project Program

Some of our greatest support comes from community members and groups who volunteer their time outside of the hospital to complete projects to benefit our patients and families.

The Service Project Program is a great opportunity for schools, corporate groups, clubs, neighborhoods, sports teams, businesses, faith-based groups or a group of friends to volunteer. The next time you get together with friends, make it fun for you and fun for Children’s too!

If you and your group are interested in completing a project to raise money for Children’s Hospital, please contact the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation to begin planning your fundraising activities. Fundraising initiatives are vital to providing much needed support to the hospital. Monetary donations are valued because they can be used to directly purchase items most in need and save the hospital time on sorting or storing donations. Donors can direct their gifts to support the hospital area of their choice.

Gift in Kind Donations

Many community members are interested in supporting Children’s but wish to provide support in the form of donated items. While we prefer monetary donations when possible, we also have a few select service projects which we enthusiastically accept donations for year-round to support the needs of our patients and families. Some community members will donate these items as individuals and others will get together with a group (school, church, work, etc.) to complete a larger project.

Toy Donations

Our Child Life Department specializes in providing developmental, educational, social, and emotional support to hospitalized children. As toys and other play and expressive activity supplies must be replenished frequently, donations are vital to maintaining a variety of engaging options for patients.

Please note that there are a number of guidelines and restrictions for toy donations. Most notably, only new items in original packaging can be accepted due to infection prevention precautions. For a complete list of items most in need and guidelines for donations, please review our Child Life Toy Donations webpage.
