Apply to Volunteer at Children's

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC!

Prior to beginning the application process, we ask that you read Considerations to Volunteering at Children's Hospital (PDF).

Application Process

Due to the volume of applications that we receive on an ongoing basis, we have developed an annual application schedule. This schedule is based on type of volunteer (adult, college, or teen) for when we will be accepting applications for review.

Please note that we have a limited number of positions available.

Hospital Volunteer Program applications (including Adults and College Students)

Season Dates Accepting Applications
March 1 to May 15

July 15 to September 15
November 15 to January 15

The Winter/Spring enrollment period is now closed!

Please check back here after March 1 when we open up the Summer enrollment period, when the volunteer application and reference form links will be posted.

Please visit our Teen Volunteer Program page for more information about the application process for eligible teens ages 15-17. The 2018 Teen Volunteer program application information and updates will be posted to that page in early February 2018.

After completing these first two steps, here are the additional application steps:

  • Meet with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Submit Required Clearances (information about how to obtain them will be provided by a Volunteer Coordinator)
  • Submit appropriate health and immunization screening documents, primarily proof of negative TB (2-step) test and a Tdap shot within the past 10 years. A Flu Shot will also be required during months of October-March. If you will need to complete these immunizations requirements, you can have your test taken at Children's Hospital Employee Health office at no additional cost.
  • Attend a 3-hour New Volunteer Orientation session (offered monthly).

You will only be contacted for an interview after we have reviewed your application, received your references, and have available openings. During the in-person interview, we will discuss your availability and interests, the clearance process, and possible volunteer assignments available.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at 412-692-5185 or
