Hospital Volunteer Program

Our Hospital Volunteer Program is our core volunteer program. We have a variety of roles available seven days a week ranging from direct interaction with children such as reading a book or playing a game, to assisting families find their way around the hospital, or providing other general or administrative support to the organization.

Becoming a UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh volunteer is a serious commitment. We ask a lot of our volunteers. From securing the necessary clearances and background checks, to completing orientation and multi-step training, to fulfilling annual ongoing requirements, our volunteers invest fully to assure that our patients and families are surrounded by a safe, knowledgeable team of volunteers during their hospital experience.

Volunteer Assignments Available

Children’s Hospital volunteer assignments are available at the following locations (assignments available vary by location with the majority of openings at Children’s Main Campus):

  • Children’s Hospital Main Campus
  • Children’s North
  • Children’s South
  • Children's Pine Center
  • Primary Care Center Oakland
  • Spanish Clinic: Salud Para Ninos (Health for the Children)
  • Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Unit (CHRU)

When completing your online application, please indicate any preferences for assignments and location (if other than Children’s Main Campus) in the “Type of Volunteer Work” free response section. This information will help us to expedite processing your application.

Please note that at this time, there are limited weekend and evening volunteer shifts available at all locations.
