Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
By the end of fellowship, our fellows have significant experience in the administrative and leadership responsibilities necessary to practice and effectively lead in clinical and academic settings.
Fellow skills in administration and leadership are fostered through various fellowship programming. Fellows take turns administering the Division conference providing scheduling of course content and allowing development of the skills for administering an ongoing course series. All fellows participate in a fellow class quality improvement (QI) project led by our Division’s QI director, Dr. Johanna Rosen. Through this experience they get hands-on teaching on QI science and develop skills in co-leading and administering a multi-disciplinary project. Unique to our program, fellows provide ongoing quality assurance for the PEM Division through the administration and management of discordant radiology reads through our electronic radiology system. Leadership in quality and safety is emphasized throughout training during PEM clinical experiences and academic curriculum. In addition, each fellow learns root cause analysis (RCA) through online programming and is mentored to present a morbidity and mortality RCA case annually at our division conference furthering skills in mutli-disciplinary group discussion and quality management. Additional leadership opportunities are available and encouraged, especially in the fellow’s focus track area, within the PEM Division on various clinical and academic committees and projects.
