The fellow for the Pediatric Surgery International Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is fully integrated into the Pediatric Surgery Training Program and functions as an additional fellow to the two ACGME approved trainees. He/she is expected to participate in daily patient care, assist in the Operating Room as assigned by the Chief Resident, and take over-night call.
The trainee will be directly supervised by the pediatric surgical faculty. Prior to taking call independently he/she will take “buddy” call with the Chief Resident in order to learn the system and to demonstrate the skills necessary to taking call. Initially the trainee will take call as a junior level resident. As skills develop, he/she will be promoted to the senior level. The trainee is required to have ATLS, PALS, and ACLS certification. Formal credentialing will be performed by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Candidates eligible for this position will be expected to have completed their general surgical training and be candidates for advanced pediatric surgical training in their native country.
