Schedule and Rotations

After completion of two years of general pediatrics, residents participate in 10 months of adult neurology rotations during their PGY-3 year. Two months of this year are also dedicated to a call-free research elective. The final two years consist of Child Neurology rotations which include the 3 different Neurology services at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (to total 22 weeks annually) and electives. Residents participate in weekly Child Neurology continuity clinic throughout all training years.

Child Neurology Service Rotations

3 Service Rotations

Inpatient/Ward Service

  • Patients with primary neurologic diagnosis
  • Dedicated Inpatient Team faculty attending with no other clinical obligations while on service
  • Other team members: pediatric interns, pediatric senior resident, PA, medical students

Inpatient Consult Service

  • Inpatient consults from floors, PICU, NICU, and CICU
  • Dedicated Consult Team faculty attending with no other clinical obligations while on service
  • Dedicated Neonatal Neurology Faculty in addition to consult attending
  • Other team members: rotating adult neurology residents, psychiatry and child psychiatry residents, pediatric residents, medical students

Outpatient/Emergency Room Consult Service

  • Handle urgent outpatient referrals and emergency room visits with neurologic concerns

Child Neurology Electives

Required Electives

  • Neonatal neurology (4 weeks)
  • Psychiatry (4 weeks)
  • Neurosurgery (4 weeks)
  • Neuropathology (4 weeks recommended)
  • EMG (4 weeks)
  • EEG
