Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
The first-line treatment doctors almost always turn to is seizure medicines, also called antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Each medicine has its own formula that responds to certain kinds of seizures. If one drug fails, another may be more effective.
Medications do not cure epilepsy, but they make it possible for many children to live normal lives, free of seizures. For others, AEDs reduce the number of seizures.
