Preventive Cardiology for Children

What Is Preventive Cardiology?

Preventive cardiology aims to diagnose and medically manage cholesterol and blood pressure problems early in life. The goal is to prevent heart attack or stroke later in life.

At Children’s Hospital, our expert team — including a dietitian —assesses and treats children who are at risk for or have:

  • High cholesterol.
  • High levels of triglycerides (fat in the blood that gives your body energy).
  • High blood pressure.

Our Lipid Clinic provides cholesterol screenings for kids who have a family history of heart and blood vessel disease or are overweight.

Referral Requirements for Preventive Heart Care

We require referrals from primary care doctors or other Children’s Hospital specialists for preventive heart care. If you're enrolled in a managed care insurance plan, you may need approval from both your insurer and doctor.

We must receive all required forms before your child's visit.
