This study offers the first formal assessment for sexual violence in college student health centers. Health centers are randomized to implement either a trauma-focused intervention on alcohol and sexual assault, or a control curriculum (alcohol risk reduction). The trauma-focused intervention will include training student health and counseling center staff to talk to their students about consensual sex, healthy relationships, alcohol-related sexual violence. The alcohol-focused comparison program will include training student health and counseling center staff on the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) recommendations for alcohol misuse and abuse. Twenty-six college campuses are participating.
College students enrolled at participating universities, ages 18-24, who have used services at college health or counseling services.
Prior to starting their clinic visit, participants will complete a 20-minute computer-based survey. Upon completion of the clinic visit, participants will complete a short exit survey. Follow-up surveys will be completed at the clinic (or via phone or email) at 4 months and 12 months after the first survey.
