Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
The purpose of this multi-center research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a web-based pain management program for children with acute recurrent or chronic pancreatitis. Researchers will also learn how well pediatric patients and their parents accept the internet-based educational program called Web-MAP. The program is accessed via computer, smartphone, or tablet. Researchers will analyze the program’s effects on pain and function and will measure psychological outcomes.
Subject to certain exclusion criteria, this study is accepting patients who have acute recurrent or chronic pancreatitis.
Boys and Girls: Ages 10 through 17
Upon enrollment, participants and their parents/guardians will complete a baseline questionnaire. They will then complete an 8-week online Web-MAP program, which involves spending approximately 30 minutes each week reading and doing other activities for pain management. Researchers will periodically phone participants to assist and monitor progress with Web-MAP. After the 8-week program is over, participants and their parents/guardians will complete additional questionnaires.
