Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
Through this study, researchers are collecting data about naturally occurring germs in the sinuses. Investigators hope to determine the normal “microbiome,” that is, the naturally occurring organisms that live in the sinuses, and understand how that microbiome changes in patients who have been diagnosed with sinus infections (chronic rhinosinusitis) or cystic fibrosis (CF), with or without nasal polyps.
Subject to exclusion criteria, the study is inviting individuals of both genders, ages 7 and older, who may be having surgery as part of their standard of care, as well as patients who are being seen for chronic rhinosinusitis or CF with or without nasal polyps.
Males and Females: Ages 7 and up
A nasal swab will be done during clinical care for chronic rhinosinusitis or CF, and for those who are having surgery, swabs will be done prior to surgery and at a surgical follow up visit. Nasal material collected will be sent for lab analysis.
Visits: None beyond clinical care for adenoidectomy
Duration: Up to 1 year
