Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
This study is the first to examine the role of effector Th cell lineages Th1, Th2, and Th17 in the pathophysiology of pediatric localized scleroderma. Researchers will evaluate associated cytokines, especially in the setting of active disease where appropriate intervention can lead to significantly decreased disease damage and morbidity. Cytokine profiles will be measured in the skin samples from pediatric patients with localized scleroderma, as well as healthy and inflammatory controls.
New participants are not being recruited for this study, as researchers are working with study samples collected previously from routine/diagnostic biopsies and stored in UPMC’s dermatopathology laboratory.
