The EMG examination is performed by a physician electromyographer as a diagnostic consultation. Electromyography is of value to patients with pain, numbness or weakness due to a disease process that involves the motor unit or the primary sensory neuron. Referral RequirementsReferrals are required from primary care physicians or other Children’s Hospital specialty services. Referrals for patients enrolled in managed care insurance plans also may require authorization from the insurance provider and primary care physician.
