The CDU can serve as an important family resource by providing recommendations and referrals to additional medical and social services that promote parent-child education, strengthen parenting skills and help families adapt to changing environments at home, at school and in the community. In addition, the CDU helps parents communicate important information to physicians, schools and early intervention programs and other child-care providers.

CDU related services include:

• Physician consultations during a child’s inpatient hospital stay
• Child and family advocacy, counseling and follow-up care to monitor progress and/or adjust recommendations
• Selective therapies, including the Child and Family Counseling Center (CFCC), The Autism Center and The Down Syndrome Center
