The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is a leader in research necessary to develop a deeper understanding of rheumatic diseases and bring safer, more effective therapies into clinical use.
Basic Research
The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology’s basic research program includes National Institutes of Health-funded laboratories dedicated to exploring the biology of rheumatic diseases, including gene regulation and gene therapy in arthritis, modulation of T cell-mediated immune responses, mechanisms of inflammation, and immune senescence.
Clinical Research
The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology’s clinical research program involves a growing number of clinical trials and outcome studies of innovative therapies for rheumatic diseases, including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis and scleroderma.
Division laboratories are located in the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center, the hospital’s dedicated research facility. Faculty scientists are joined in their work with a highly-skilled and experienced research team that includes a laboratory manager, research associates and post-doctoral research fellows and graduate students. The medical and research faculty at Children’s Hospital comprise the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, recognized as one of the leading biomedical institutions in the nation.
