Rheumatology

Clinical Research

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is involved in clinical trials and outcome studies to advance the safety and effectiveness of innovative therapies for children with rheumatic diseases.

Division faculty often work with other programs across the nation and with the pharmaceutical industry, the Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Study Group (PRCSG) and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Network (CARRA) on multi-site studies of novel treatments. Examples of clinical research at Children’s Hospital include a study of the long-term effects of etanercept in children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and participation in a childhood scleroderma registry to study the cause, natural history or disease course, new therapies and outcomes related to systemic sclerosis and localized scleroderma, including morphea and linear scleroderma and Raynaud’s Phenomenon.
