General Academic Pediatrics Fellowship

The Division of General Academic Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC offers Fellowship Programs in General Academic Pediatrics and Medicine-Pediatrics. These fellowships are part of a larger interdisciplinary program funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), entitled, "Primary Care Physician Faculty Development Fellowship." The program includes faculty and fellows from general academic pediatrics, general internal medicine, family medicine, medicine-pediatrics, adolescent medicine and other disciplines invovled in primary care.

The Primary Care Physician Faculty Development Fellowship aims to create a new generation of primary care physician educator and clinical research faculty. The objectives of the program are:

1. To prepare Primary Care Master Educator Fellows with a particular emphasis on teaching the knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to Care of the Underserved as identified in Healthy People 2010.

2. To prepare Primary Care Clinical Research Fellows with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to conduct research with an emphasis on Healthy People 2010 focus areas relevant to underserved populations.

Fellows receive robust, consistent interdisciplinary mentoring, advanced degree training in curriculum development and evaluation or clinical research, and fellowship-specific experiences in teaching and providing care to underserved populations and in culturally competent health care communication, health disparities and new health care systems.
This collaborative initiative arises from national, regional and local issues that affect the provision of health care to underserved and at-risk populations. Program completers are well poised to assume academic positions and demonstrate leadership in primary care clinical research or resident education.
