Biography Summary

Carla S. Weidman, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics / Child Development Unit (CDU) and the Cleft-Craniofacial Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Weidman is an integral member of a group of specialists in the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics / CDU. This group of specialists includes developmental/behavioral pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, behavioral consultants, and trainees. These specialists work with families to help them understand their child's developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs. Dr. Weidman provides psychological evaluations for children with developmental and behavioral concerns, including children with ADHD, autism, and developmental variations and delay. As a part of the evaluation process, children may be given a diagnosis along with recommendations for treatment and follow up care with the appropriate agencies.

Dr. Weidman's role of the psychologist at the Cleft Craniofacial Center is to work with the team of professionals to evaluate the child's emotional, developmental, and behavioral needs as a part of their ongoing care. Dr. Weidman is involved in several research projects at the Cleft Craniofacial Center.

Dr. Weidman has experience in developmental and psychological evaluations of young children who may have a developmental delay, behavior problems, attention problems, or a diagnosis in the Autism Spectrum. She also has extensive experience as a therapist, working with children and adolescents using play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and group therapy. In addition, her experience includes working with parents to develop more effective and positive parenting strategies.

Dr. Weidman has been a psychologist at the Child Development Unit since 2003 and the Cleft Craniofacial Center since 2004. Prior to this, she was a clinical psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at Allegheny General Hospital and faculty member of the Drexel University School of Medicine. She has experience in teaching and research as well as a number of publications and presentations. She earned a Master's degree from the University of Chicago and a doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota.
