Biography Summary
Charles Bender, MD, FAAP, is a member of the UPMC Newborn Medicine Program at Magee-Womens Hospital and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He also is associate professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Bender received his bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit. He attended medical school at The Ohio State University School of Medicine and completed residency and fellowship training at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Wayne State University, both in Detroit.
Dr. Bender's major current activity has been the planning of the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Magee-Womens Hospital. Its design incorporates state-of-the-art developmental and clinical research in infant care. Other interests include the delivery of care to critically infants and the historic and ethical aspects of neonatal care.
