Biography Summary
Paul Rosen, MD, MPH, MMM, is clinical director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His interests include developing new and better ways to deliver care to children and treatment programs for children with chronic joint pain. Dr. Rosen came to Children's Hospital in 2003 from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he had completed his training in rheumatology.
A native of New York state, Dr. Rosen attended the State University of New York at Binghamton as an undergraduate, earning a bachelor's degree in biology in 1993. He earned his medical degree from the University of Buffalo in 1997 and completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City. Dr. Rosen earned a master's degree in public health at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., and a master's degree in medical management at the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
As clinical director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, Dr. Rosen's focus is on innovative forms of health care delivery, including a patient-physician e-mail program. Along with his faculty colleagues, Dr. Rosen has worked with The Children's Institute in Pittsburgh to establish an intensive treatment program for children with idiopathic musculoskeletal pain. Dr. Rosen also serves as consulting faculty at the Children's Institute.
Dr. Rosen's research interests include family-centered care, patient safety, and the patient-physician relationship. He serves on several Children's Hospital committees. At the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Rosen is both a teacher and a mentor to medical students. He is the course director for the Business Aspects of Medicine and Legal Aspects of Medicine elective courses. He also serves as a mentor to pediatric residents. Dr. Rosen has lectured throughout western Pennsylvania on chronic joint pain in children and on patient-centered care nationally.
Dr. Rosen is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric rheumatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Rheumatology and American College of Physician Executives.
