Clinical Training
Centered at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and with close ties to the Adult Pulmonary/Critical Care Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the Fellowship offers fellows a wide breadth of clinical experience. Because Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is the major tertiary pediatric facility in a region that includes western Pennsylvania, southeast Ohio, western Maryland and West Virginia, the clinical problems seen include entities ranging from the common, such as asthma and cystic fibrosis; to the unusual, such as airway anomalies and lung transplantation; to the exotic, such as pulmonary lymphangiomatosis and “plastic” bronchitis. With an active pediatric flexible bronchoscopy service, and exercise physiology laboratory, a complete pulmonary function testing lab, a pediatric sleep laboratory and in- and outpatient facilities designed for the care of children, the clinical experience of the trainee is quite complete.
