Effective July 1, 2013, Children’s Primary Care UPMC Mercy Health Center will be relocating to Children’s Primary Care Oakland at the Oakland Medical Building.

The Oakland Medical Building is less than two miles from the Primary Care Center at Mercy and offers a parking lot for families. It is also accessible by public transportation. Click here for driving directions to the Oakland Medical Building.

Additionally, the Oakland office is spacious, and provides enhanced services, including:

Evening hours Monday through Thursday, for both well child and sick visits
Saturday morning hours for both well-child and sick visits
Walk-in Clinic during morning hours, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday
Bilingual Hispanic Clinic
Lactation (breastfeeding) consultations
Behavioral health services
Dental services
Nutrition services
Adolescent Medicine Clinic located in the same building

Aimee Biller, MD, and many of the resident providers will be relocating to the Oakland office, so parents may continue their child’s care with their current provider. Please contact our office at 412-692-6000 for questions regarding this transition.

The Primary Care Center is located in UPMC Mercy Health Center, 1515 Locust St., in Pittsburgh.

Services

The Primary Care Center offers complete health care services for children and adolescents from birth to 21 years of age.

Prevention

Preventing disease and promoting health are important parts of health care. During well-child visits, we will discuss important issues for your child and your family. We can answer questions you have about topics including:

Nutrition
Education
Safety
Family relationships

Discipline
Child care
Behavior
Development

We provide all of the immunizations, or shots, your children need to prevent serious illnesses such as whooping cough, measles and hepatitis. We will provide you with a booklet you can use to keep track of your children’s immunizations. We hope you will bring this booklet to each visit. If your child received immunizations somewhere else, please bring a record of those shots with you. We also may need to test your child’s blood or urine to gather more information about his or her health.

Diagnostic and Treatment Services

We provide care to children with all types of medical problems. Our services include:

Same-day appointments when your child is sick
Urgent care
Advice by telephone
Evaluation and treatment of chronic illnesses
(illnesses that last a long time)
Childhood immunizations
Referral to subspecialists at Mercy Health Center or Children's Hospital if necessary

Appointments

All patients are seen by appointment. Appointments are made by calling 412-232-7751 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please call us if you will be late for a scheduled appointment.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday mornings and afternoons. Evening and Saturday appointments can be made through the Primary Care Center Oakland.

Same-day appointments are available for sick children or for issues that cannot wait until the next scheduled appointment. If your child needs to be seen sooner than the next available appointment, please ask to speak with a nurse. We will try to meet your child’s needs.

If you cannot keep an appointment, please call to cancel so we can see another patient during that time. We will help you to reschedule your appointment.

Who will see my child?

Each child and family is assigned a doctor or nurse practitioner. Whenever possible, the same health care professional will see your child for scheduled and sick visits. However, if your doctor or nurse practitioner is unavailabe, another member of the team will see your child.

The Primary Care Center is a training site for health care professionals. Your doctor may be a resident, a doctor who has completed medical school and is training to specialize in health care for children. Some of the nurse practitioners or nurses also are in training. Experienced doctors and nurses closely supervise the doctors and nurses who are in training. We strongly believe that the teaching program results in the highest quality care for you and your child. Feel free to ask to speak with the supervisor.

Insurance

The Primary Care Center accepts most health insurance plans. Please check with your health insurance plan or with us to be certain that we accept yours. If your children currently are uninsured, our social worker in Lawrenceville is available via telephone to assist you.
