Pediatric Radiology Fellowship

The pediatric radiology rotation at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC constitutes a supervised experience in pediatric interpretation of radiography, computed tomography, ultrasonography, magnetic resonance, and nuclear medicine. The resident will gain exposure to the knowledge and the indications and applications of diagnostic imaging of the newborn, infant, child, and adolescent.

Training for the pediatric radiology residents will consist of didactic and clinical experiences that encompass the scope of pediatric radiology from the neonate to the adolescent. The didactic component will promote scholarship, self-instruction, self-evaluation, teaching, and research activity. This will develop analytic skills and judgment. The clinical component will facilitate skillful technical performance of low-radiation dose procedures on all organ systems that are examined in the practice of pediatric radiology. The pediatric imaging experience will include both inpatient and outpatient studies.

Typically, the resident is assigned to one week rotations in following radiology departmental areas:

Reading Room
Intensive Care Units
Fluoroscopy
Emergency Department
Ultrasound
Body CT/MR
Neuro CT/MR
Nuclear Medicine
Interventional Radiology

Each of the ACGME Six General Competencies will be applied and practiced throughout the rotation. The competencies include patient care (PC), medical knowledge (MK), practice-based learning (PBL), interpersonal and communication skills (ICS), professionalism (P), and systems-based practice (SBP).
