Training, Education & Research

General Academic Pediatrics (GAP) faculty members provide current and innovative education to medical students, pediatric and family medicine residents, fellows, nurses, nurse practitioners and allied health professionals. They develop and disseminate new knowledge in a wide range of areas such as:

Common childhood diseases and conditions
New approaches to treatment
Best practices and standards of care
Health outcomes
Models of service delivery

Some of the curricula of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s Division of General Academic Pediatrics are available to health professionals for review.

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s Division of General Academic Pediatrics also offers a Fellowship Program in partnership with the Division of General Internal Medicine at UPMC Montefiore. This program is funded by a Faculty Development in Primary Care grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. The overall purpose of this collaborative faculty development program is to create a new generation of primary care clinician researchers in pediatrics, internal medicine and medicine-pediatrics. These individuals must work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, address public health priorities, be culturally competent, consult those who were impacted by their care and research, and develop leadership skills to translate results into policy.
