Kathryn Torok, MD, began her career in Pediatric Rheumatology as a Fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2006. Upon completion of her fellowship, she started as an Instructor in the Division of Rheumatology Pittsburgh in July 2009, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in July 2010. She helped create, implement, and now serves as director of the CHP Scleroderma Clinic which provides treatment for children with localized and systemic scleroderma (LS and ScS).
Along with treating patients, Dr. Torok has been involved in a multitude of research projects including serving as principle investigator and coordinator of the National Registry for Childhood Onset Scleroderma. The registry serves as a national resource of longitudinal data on pediatric patients with this disease and spurs Dr. Torok’s mission to directly stimulate new research and investigations with this patient population. In addition to the registry, Dr. Torok is involved in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatic Disease Research Alliance Network (CARRANet), a North American organization of pediatric rheumatologists who are committed to advancing the health and quality of life of children living with rheumatic disease and arthritis and who have joined together to answer critical clinical research questions. She has initiated and participated in a number of studies to further evaluate disease activity measurement in pediatric localized scleroderma, by studying clinical, thermal and ultrasonography measures.
Currently, Dr. Torok’s main research interest is the T-helper cell cytokine profile of patients with localized scleroderma. Her NIH funded project represents the first study to evaluate all three Th cell lineages in LS by measuring their associated cytokines in serum and skin biopsies of patients. Effective anti-cytokine therapies for LS may stem from this proposal, modifying the way clinicians treat this disease and potentially saving children from life-long physical and emotional disability.
Dr. Torok’s long-term research goal is to provide better treatment options for LS by targeting cytokines and other factors associated with the active phase of the disease, to minimize or prevent long-term tissue damage.

Dr Torok has been a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Torok spent a long time with our family. Not only did she thoroughly examine our son and discuss his case with us, she listened intently and really engaged the child's attention as well. I know that she sees kids who are "sicker" and I really appreciate her time with my child's relatively minor concern.
always a good experience. we travel a long way to see her.

Our whole family is very happy with this provider! She provides excellent care!
Very nice and knowledgeable.
the waiting time was long
The wait time in the examining room is ALWAYS too long. Usually a minimum of 45 minutes this past visit my husband waited about 1hr and 10 min for my daughter to be seen and that is just too much and its not an isolated incident, you must then allow more time in between visits our time is also valuable and we arent being shown that and its been going on as long as she has been a patient there
We drive 4 hours to see Dr. Torok and it is so worth it! She is excellent!!!! We love her!!!

Waiting time for both the appt and lab work was quite lengthy. Otherwise, all was excellent.
My only complaint is the time we waited in the exam room...just shy of 50 minutes, BUT we always receive GREAT care from Dr. Torok so the wait is worth it.
