Brief Summary of Lecture: Dr. Walters will provide an overview of conventional hematopoietic cell transplantation studies for sickle cell disease and thalassemia major as well as recent clinical and pre-clinical studies of gene addition and gene modification for therapeutic effect. He will examine indications for transplantation in light of these studies and discuss which patients would most benefit from transplantation and the likely results.
