Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine provides medical care for adolescents (ages 10–22) for a wide range of health issues.
As a Primary Care Clinic, we conduct routine physicals for School, sports, driving, and work, including vision and hearing screening and immunization updates. We also see our primary care clients for acute and chronic health problems including:
We also see patients for consultations, meaning that young people are referred by other health professionals (like their pediatrician) to seek our opinion and recommendations for managing special health concerns such as:
Of course we communicate with the young person’s Primary Care Office and make sure that they are aware of our assessment and recommendations.
We welcome the participation of adult caregivers as key partners in supporting a young person’s successful transition to adulthood. During a visit with one of our providers, we usually ask to spend time alone with the young person to help them develop skills in talking to a health care provider about their concerns and to start taking responsibility for their health. We respect the privacy and confidentiality of our young patients, while ensuring that young people are safe and connected to appropriate services and resources as needed.
