Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is the only medical center in western Pennsylvania that has the ability to diagnose acquired and congenital bleeding and clotting disorders in children because of its partnership with the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The Hemophilia Program is funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Institutes of Health.
Children's hematologists work closely with the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania to provide innovative treatments and comprehensive care for both children and adults with hemophilia, one of the most severe bleeding disorders. Since hemophilia is a lifelong problem, our hematologists work closely with physical therapists, social workers and family members to help children learn to manage their disease as they make the transition to adulthood.
Along with the Hemophilia Center of Western Pennsylvania, directed by Margaret Ragni, MD, Children's Hospital provides high quality, comprehensive care for children with hemophilia and thrombophilia. The program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, registered nurses, social workers and others who are experts in the treatment and management of bleeding and clotting disorders.
In addition to the Sickle Cell Program and the Hemophilia Center, Children's Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology provides exceptional patient care through our Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation Program and our Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program.
A. Kim Ritchey, MD, is the director of the Pediatric Hemophilia Program. He can be reached by calling 412-692-5055.
