Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
The Vocal Cord Dysfunction (VCD) Clinic at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is a unique multidisciplinary clinic. We provide thorough care in diagnosing and treating children who have laryngeal dystonia.
Your child will have a combined exam with a pediatric otolaryngologist and pediatric pulmonologist. This allows us to help you and your child better understand the diagnosis of vocal cord dysfunction.
Specialists are able to confirm the diagnosis of VCD through use of exercise pulmonary function testing and laryngoscopy.
We perform these tests at Children's Hospital's main campus in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh.
Children's Hospital's Communication Disorders Department provides advanced treatments and therapies for kids with VCD.
As a comprehensive resource center, the Vocal Cord Dysfunction Clinic is available to your child, referring physicians, and surgeons who may request diagnoses, second opinions, treatment plans, and definitive treatment.
We require referrals from primary care doctors or other Children’s Hospital specialty services. We also may require authorization from the insurance provider and primary care physician if your child is enrolled in managed care insurance plans.
We must receive all necessary referral and authorization forms before your child's visit.
