Children's Hospital is part of the UPMC family.
Children's Primary Care Oakland offers complete health care services for children and adolescents from birth to 21 years of age.
Preventing disease and promoting health are important parts of health care. During well-child visits, we will discuss important issues for your child and your family. We can answer questions you have about topics including:
We provide all of the immunizations, or shots, your children need to prevent serious illnesses such as whooping cough, measles and hepatitis. We will provide you with a booklet you can use to keep track of your children’s immunizations. We hope you will bring this booklet to each visit. If your child received immunizations somewhere else, please bring a record of those shots with you. We also may need to test your child’s blood or urine to gather more information about his or her health.
We provide care to children with all types of medical problems. Our services include:
Other support services available include child and family counseling, nutrition counseling and developmental assessments. Please let the doctor or nurse know if you would like more information about these services or if you think you need services for your child or your family.
If you want advice, please call 412-692-6000 during the day, if possible. However, advice over the telephone is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
All patients are seen by appointment. Appointments are made by calling 412-692-6000 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please call us if you will be late for a scheduled appointment.
Appointments are available Monday through Friday mornings and afternoons. We also have appointments Monday through Thursday evenings.
Saturdays are reserved for sick-child visits only. Saturday appointments may be made by calling 412-692-6000 between 8 a.m. and noon for appointments.
Same-day appointments are available for sick children or for issues that cannot wait until the next scheduled appointment. If your child needs to be seen sooner than the next available appointment, please ask to speak with a nurse. We will try to meet your child’s needs.
If you cannot keep an appointment, please call to cancel so we can see another patient during that time. We will help you to reschedule your appointment.
Each child and family is assigned a doctor or nurse practitioner. Whenever possible, the same health care professional will see your child for scheduled and sick visits. However, if your doctor or nurse practitioner is unavailable, another member of the team will see your child.
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is a training site for health care professionals. Your doctor may be a resident, a doctor who has completed medical school and is training to specialize in health care for children. Some of the nurse practitioners or nurses also are in training. Experienced doctors and nurses closely supervise the doctors and nurses who are in training. We strongly believe that the teaching program results in the highest quality care for you and your child. Feel free to ask to speak with the supervisor.
Children's Primary Care Oakland accepts most health insurance plans. Please check with your health insurance plan or with us to be certain that we accept yours. If your children currently are uninsured, we can help you obtain insurance for them. We use a sliding fee scale (fees charged are based on family size and income) for families who cannot obtain insurance for their children.
