Fellowship With a Clinical Research Focus in Lysosomal Storage Disorders
Recipients of the Neurodevelopment in Rare Disorders (NDRD) training fellowship focus their clinical research activities in one of the disorders while receiving training in the broad area of neurodevelopmental disorders for one to three years. This track was started in 2003 and has funded two fellows in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Escolar's mentorship activities with fellows include a review of clinical cases three times per week, the development of a research project, and weekly conferences or journal club meetings.
The following pediatricians benefited from this training tract:
Dr. Holly Martin, 2004–07
Funded by the Trimpers Foundation
Dr. Karina Yelin, 2006–09
Funded by the Caterina Marcus Foundation
In addition to fellowships with a clinical research focus in lysosomal storage disorders, our program offers rotations for graduate and postdoctoral students in:
Such interdisciplinary emphasis provides a rich environment for fellows to learn about developmental and behavioral issues from many perspectives within a bio-psychosocial framework. Postdoctoral and graduate students have had the opportunity to develop their doctoral dissertations and research projects with the NDRD. Participants who have completed this program include four PhD candidates, one master’s level student, three medical students, and four undergraduate research associates.
