Camp Wakchazi: Sibling Bereavement Program

June 28 to July 1, 2018

What is Camp Wakchazi 2018?

Camp Wakchazi is a sibling bereavement camp of the Supportive Care Program at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

Many children struggling with the grief of losing a sibling may not know other kids who have gone through the same thing. This can be scary and lonely for a child.

Camp Wakchazi:

  • Gives bereaved siblings the chance for a weekend away to focus on fun and healing.
  • Brings bereaved siblings together to learn, play, and heal.
  • Connects campers to role models in the form of Peer Counselors — a group of bereaved siblings, ages 17 to 23. They have been through the loss of a sibling and volunteer their time to serve as camp leaders.

Where is Camp Wakchazi 2018?

Camp Wakchazi 2018 is at YMCA Camp Soles in Rockwood, PA (near Somerset) from June 28 to July 1, 2018.

The Supportive Care Team, YMCS Camp Soles staff, and Peer Counselors supervise activities throughout the four day weekend.
