In contrast to a few comments that Dr, Memmon was not responsive to their needs I found the doctor to be friendly, answer clearly, politely and very professional in his demeanor. I wish I could have seen him sooner that having to wait a month. I also wish I had been asked if a student could attend the interview and examine my eyes - I was not asked if that was ok with me!
Jennifer was the nurse that took care of me and she was excellent. She was very professional and knowledgeable about my medical concerns. Dr. Mammen was the physician that treated me. He was also excellent. Very professional, knowledgeable about my medical concerns and he explained everything in great detail. He also taught me about my eye problems and showed me how to treat the problem. Very good doctor. As a retired nurse I could tell that he really knows his profession.
My appointment was for 820am. I did not see provider until around 11am. Had to have an additional test and did not leave the offices until 1145.
Much too long a wait to see the physician.
My care provider is amazing.
I had a very pleasant encounter
I would highly recommend him to anyone who asked.
he was very cocky, not very friendly and I probably won't return.
I had to go to the ER....and I was given this provider for my follow up...Dr. Alex Mammen was very, very good!!! I was very pleased! And Dr. Steven Kearns was a provider also, and he was very, very good and thorough also. I am very happy with the service I recieved!!!
The doctor did not introduce himself when he walked in the door. He also did not introduce himself to my sister who was sitting in the room. The doctor did not have a lot to say during my exam about his findings and did not address anything that had to do with how the eyes can be affected by autoimmune disorders, which is why I was there. I also asked questions regarding why my eyes were dry and he didn't take time to acknowledge that I asked and he also did not answer my question. The doctor put plugs in for dry eyes and did not explain how to care for them and or if there were any precautions I needed to take.
I don't have any problems with the care of the provider, I think Dr. Mammen is a very good doctor and I trust him.
Dr. Mammen is a terrific eye dr. I am very pleased with my surgeries.I have given his name to several friends.
Three hours was too long for a yearly eye exam.
This was a check-up visit. My appointment was at 10:50 am and I was in the waiting room at 10:25 am. I was seen briefly by a nurse at 10:50 and then waited to see the doctor until around 12:15. About 15 minutes later I was seen by a resident who did my exam. About 15 minutes after he was done I finally saw my doctor. "Everything looks fine." Roughly 2 hours between appointment time and finally seeing my doctor with no explanation for the delay. This is really not acceptable.
Dr. Mammen and his team are caring, sensitive, and work with syncrony.
Dr. Mammen was very nice and answered all of my questions. He helped me to better understand my condition and took the time to clearly explain everything to me.
My whole experience was excellent. I felt very comfortable.
wait was a little long, but the service was great.
Everyone was wonderful
Doctor took the time to do a procedure on my eye that others could have made me come back for.
Dr. Mammen was wonderful. He treated me with respect and answered all my questions. I came to UPMC eye center for a second opinion after a bad interaction with another ophthalmologist. The experience at UPMC was so different. I have recommended your team and Dr. Mammen to others :)
spent well over an hour waiting to see the dr
After spending 2 hours in the waiting room, I never saw Dr. Mammen. My personal schedule didn't allow me to wait any longer, nor did I want to. I have been experiencing discomfort in my eyes and looked forward to the appointment. Imagine my disappointment when I had to spend my day off driving to and from Oakland and waiting, then not seeing the doctor.
He asked to have an additional test done while I was there without well explaining it to me, either the purpose, process or potential cost for it. I did not have the results received or reviewed.
I have the highest respect for Dr. Mammen and feel very confident in his care.
one of the best doctors ive seen. and i see alot of upmc doctors. dr. mammen was first time i saw him and i will continue to see only him.
DR ALEX MAMMEN IS AN EXCELLENT DOCTOR. HIS ENTIRE STAFF ARE ARE VERY EDUCATED IN THERE FIELD. THEY ARE WONDERFUL TO BE AROUND. WISH MORE PEOPLE WERE LIKE THEM.
Don't let him leave Eye and Ear...ever. He is a terrific doctor with a great personality and attitude that is reflected in his staff as well.
UPMC Eye Center staff are all extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
My recent visit with this provider was excellent. It was difficult to set an urgent appointment with the eye clinic. Once inside the office for the visit, everything went well.
office way behind schedule but was prepared to wait
the wait is horrible!
My appointment was for 10:45 and I did not get out of there until 3:00.
Dr was running behind, but as always the Dr is such a professional kind, caring person I don't mind the wait...............
Everything was terrific. My only issue was the waiting time - I waited over 1.5 hours for my appointment.
my appts with dr mammen take 2 to 4 hours--this should not be!!! he is the specialist i need so i put up with it but my time is valuable too!!! i have seen him now since march 2015 and am anxious to return to my eye MD in mt lebanon. if my appt is scheduled for 11 am, i am often still there at 2pm!!! this is every appt and i have tried coming in at different times but it is always hours before i get to leave!
Havebeen seeing opthomologists for about 7 years now for a chronic eye disease. Have seendrscome and go with UPMC. I cannot say enough good things about Dr Mamenn. He takes the time to explain things and listen to what i have to say. Spent time last appt looking at perscription prices on line to find an affordable choice for me. The only issue i have is his demand. Doesnt seem to have enough openings for patients. Perhaps this is related to post op surgery appts asi know he does surgeries as well. My appt was cancelledby UPMC and i had to wait 3 months to get a new appt. But it wasnt an emergency so it was fine. Other thanthat, i highly recommend Dr Mammenn and the UPMC Eye Center in Monroeville. The entire staff is wonderful.
Nurse Deb has a very soothing voice and demeanor. She was very patient with me during the eye scans since I tend to flinch and blink a lot during these types of exams. Deb was quite informative and thorough when answering my questions and explaining the process of LASIK. Dr. Mammen is also informative and thorough. I fully trust him with my eyes and upcoming surgery. He is also very accomodating and flexible with his schedule. I was surprised that he was able to accommodate my previously made commitments and change my surgery date seemingly at the drop of a hat. I appreciate that immensely.
Dr Mammen was running 2 hrs behind on appts. I spent 3 hours in the freezing waiting rooms having things done as if it was an annual checkup--it was not. I came because I had been sick with ear infections and sore throats and my eyes were extremely red and seeping. I had to apply warm compresses multiple times a day as my eyes were stuck shut. I was worried about an eye infection
I really like Dr. Mammen but waiting 2 hours to be seen is too much.
My previous doctor retired and Dr. Mamman was assigned to me. This was my very first visit with this doctor. Overall experience was very good.
The doctor spoke very softly and I couldn't hear him most of the time concerning my eyes which did upset me
the staff on the 6th and 7th floor are very courteous and helpful. I have never had any problems with any of them.Always respectful and helpful. Always accomodating.
My experiences with this office and Dr Mammen have been exceptional. He found and treated and resolved an eye problem I had for 4 months(!!!) unsuccessfully treated by others
I was very satisfied with the service and care at this visit.
Only concern is it takes forever to be seen by Dr Mammen but understand he is very busy..
i waited well over 2 hours past my appointment time i did come in 1 hour earlier too because i had to go to a funeral home visit it was too long of a day for a 8 minute visit with the md
Dr.Mammen is an excellent doctor.
They where very helpful with my concerns with my eyes and help me to understand what was wrong and what needed done.
doctor was very abrupt and hurried
After my surgery was cancelled with Dr Dhaliwal because of her emergency, Dr Mammen stepped up immediately. He rescheduled my surgery for 1 day later than planned and saw me in his office the next day. When I met him he answered all my questions both medical procedure and vanity wise. He explained everything clearly and concisely. Millie in the scheduling dept was excellent with calling me and returning my calls immediately. I couldn't ask for better patient care.
Dr. Mammon is on his way to becoming an excellent doctor.
My eye is much improved
I feel so fortunate to have the BEST doctors at EYE AND EAR Hospital.
Dr Mammen and his staff always treat me with respect and courtesy. Do whatever you need to do to keep this very cohesive group together and at eye and ear institute
Dr. Mammen is the best doctor I have ever been to. He came in on holidays just to make sure my ulcer was under control. Dr. Mammen and his staff worked with my family and me (we live two hours away) to ensure that I was seen at convenient times. Dr. Mammen and his staff went out of their way to make sure my needs were met and that I was comfortable at all times. They put up with my moodiness and my jests. The first time I saw Dr. Mammen was on an emergency basis, and he cleared his schedule and made my health a priority. Dr. Mammen's bedside manner is impeccable and his communication skills are up to par. He left a lasting impression on me and my family and friends ( as I was unable to drive and had to be escorted by family and friends to appointments). Dr. Mammen was compliant with HIPPA (asking me for permission before sharing info with my family and friends who attended appointments) and would answer questions confidently with assurance and knowledge. My experience with Dr. Mammen was the first encounter I've had with UPMC, but I am beyond impressed and recommend UPMC facilities to everyone. UPMC hired the best doctor when they chose Dr. Mammen, and I am very grateful that he was the Doctor that was chosen for me.
Dr. Mammen is and will always be very kind and caring Dr.. Along with his Female asst. So kind
Great experience, physician was very clear with providing answers to my questions. He as well as the staff washed their hands so many times during my visit- it was impressive.
Dr. Mammen is a great doctor, you never feel rushed when he is with you and he takes the time to answer any questions you have.
He always makes time to answer questions. He or his staff always answers emails through upmc.com quickly
Dr. Mammen treats me like his own family, he shows careness for others
EXCELLENT SERVICE. THE DOCTOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY KIND AND CARING TO ME REGARDING MY EYE PROBLEMS. DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS HE AND HIS STAFF HAVE ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE TO ANSWER MY CONCERNS. WOULD CHOOSE DR MAMMEN AGAIN.
Visiting Dr Mammen and his very qualified staff is always a pleasant and informative visit.
I was very pleased with my care. Dr. Mammen was wonderful and the surgical nurse could not have been more compassionate!
