Dr. Gardner has a wonderful way of communicating where you understand and feel mutually understood and reassured. The student/physician who also saw us was kind and extremely helpful. Overall, I left feeling more positive about my health situation which is invaluable.
excellent care is being provided by Doctor Gardner and his staff.
I am happy that I found Dr. Gardner and look forward to our next visit.
biggest complaint is the wait. I understand emergencies come up but my appointment was at 7:30 am and I didn't see dr Gardner until after 10:00 am. The wait wouldn't be so bad if I had been able to stay in the waiting room until closer to the time he could see me.
The visit went very quickly. I moved my appointment up by several weeks as I was experiencing more severe side effects from my surgery than I had since earlier in my recovery. My sense, and my husband's as well, was that, well, I did my job, you will have to go see someone else if you have a headache. Oh, and by the way, it will take three to six months to get an appointment. Felt no sense of compassion whatsoever.
My first ever visit to see this doctor. We traveled over 2 hrs. We waited over 2 hrs. That's ok. When I finally saw Dr. Gardner it was nearing 5 pm. He appeared to be in an extreme hurry and took barely 10 minutes, if that, with me. He was neither friendly nor polite. As we left the office, it was dark in the waiting room.
excellent personable and professional physician
treated very well by all staff I had contact with.
They were busy, but we waited in the room for the doctor for 2 hours.
Excellent Staff and Doctors
Dr. Gardner is a professional, compassionate doctor who listens to my concerns and takes the time to explain everything related to my condition in a way that my family and I can truly understand. There is no one I trust more with my health.
fantastic. I would not be alive without them. They were very, very supportive too.
Excellent care provided on all fronts
i had to wait 4 hours from the time of my appoinment till the time i got to see the dr.
the best surgeon as well as support staff
I arrived on time for an 11:30 appointment and did not see Dr Gardner unit 2:30--they should be honest and inform patients that there will be a multi-hour wait. While I may not have the respect, skills, educstion and status of a neurosurgeon, my time is valuable too.
the neurology department is a busy one and they seemed to be short-staffed at the front desk. Somehow, I was able to see my doctor is a timely manner and although being short handed, all of the staff was very kind and helpful. Taking a trip to Presbyterian in Oakland has always been stressful for me with traffic and parking, but one I get to where I need to be, the experience with the staff has always been excellent. I feel very fortunate to have connections with Dr. Gardner and the staff at UPMC. Thank you!
I had to wait over three hours for the doctor to spend less than 5 mins with me. My appointment was at 10:30, I arrived at 10 and wasn't seen until after 2:00pm. Very unhappy that I had to take time off of work to be treated like that.
Wait time (90 minutes) was too long.
Why a 2 hour wait for scheduled appointment. when we questioned the receptionist the response was..".Dr. Garner is always behind". 2 hours?? for a 15min appointment? If Dr. Garner can expect his patients to wait 2 hours,(and this was not the first time - and we were second appointment of the day), then maybe he should not schedule patients till after lunch, or after am rounds, or whatever it is that is making him habitually late.
everyone from valet, Dave at info desk went out of the way for me. very impressive. just praying everyone that will care for me after surgery is the same. they all deserve the above and beyond award!!
I have been coming to Dr. Gardner since 2010 and he has always taken the time to answer all of my questions and conncerns. He also has a very friendly and professional team working with him. I would definitely recommend Dr. Gardner and everyone else that works with him.
Clinic makes it difficult to maintain a schedule, while delivering quality care. Quality of care was excellent.
I had an appointment and got called into a room 2 hours and 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. The person who took me back to my room did not introduce herself, she did not verify my name and/or date of birth. She did not ask me why I was at this appointment. She did not offer why Dr. Gardner was late nor did she apologize for the lateness of the appointment. I never had a set of vital signs taken. I never had anyone review my allergies or medications. I sat in the room for 20 minutes when a Fellow finally came in an briefly spoke to me and performed a brief neurologic exam. I then waited in the room another 40 minutes until I finally walked out to find someone to ask when Dr. Gardner would be in to see me, given that it was now 3 hours and 30 minutes past my appointment time. I was told that he would be in to see me next. However 5 minutes after that, a person came into my exam room and told me that he was called to an emergency in the operating room and it was not known what time he would return. It that time, I decided to leave as I needed to get home to my children. I never ended up seeing Dr. Gardner despite being in the office for over 3 hours and 30 minutes. I never had any recommendations regarding my MRI and follow up care. I also have yet to receive a phone call to reschedule my appointment or have someone discuss my MRI results. It also should be known that while I was a patient in the hospital in June 2016 Dr. Gardner never came into to see me. I saw and interacted with a Fellow only. Prior to discharge, Dr. Gardner called me on the phone and that was the only interaction I had with him. I am a healthy care provider within UPMC system and am appalled and the service and level of care I have received by this office.
Although I was seen by a Resident Physician three hours later than my appointment time and was told the results of my test, I waited another two hours to see the Physician who repeated what I was told by the Resident. It was an exhausting experience. All were apologetic about the long wait and that certainly is appreciated.
This is the first provider who allowed for an interactive discourse concerning treatment options for my particular condition. He didn't talk AT me or tell me what I should do. He informed me of the options and left the decision to me. With other providers, I have been told what to do without allowing for my opinions and concerns. This is a difficult decision, and I need to feel that my point of view matters.
I waited 3 1/2 Hours to see doctor. Very disappointed that my time was not valued or respected. My appointment was at 10:30 and didn't see Doctor till 2:00. EVERYONE in the waiting room said this is the normal for this doctor. It shouldn't be, its bordering on the ridiculous. If he wasn't the caliber of doctor I was needing I would have left.
was in office at 9:30 left at 1:30 talked to staff and doctor for a total of 20-25 minutes in 4 hours! way too long is a wait.
ray appointment was for 1:00. I arrived at 12:50. at 3:00 I was still waiting. I was told there were still six people ahead of me. I canceled and came home.
I can't say enough about the excellent quality of care I received, from the doctor, to the office staff and the hospital nursing staff.
He explained the results of an MRI taken same day. Answered all concerns.
Best doctor. Had to wait close to 2 hrs
I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to come to UPMC and have Dr. Gardner perform my surgery. Him and his entire team treated me with excellent care. Right from my contact with Dr. Gardner I knew I was with right provider. He was clearly messaging via email extremely late at night to offer me inform and advice to help me make the best decision for my family.
I am always pleased with my appointment and the doctor always is friendly and professional.
they always take great care of me
Dr. Gardner very compassionate doctor. He listens to all your concerns and takes the time to answer any questions and direct you to other help when he cannot help you any more. He is an asset to your Hospital. I am very pleased with him.
Dr. Gardner and his entire staff have always been top notch. Some appointments the wait time has been longer than I would like, however, I understand that some diagnosises require more time to explain. I appreciated the time Dr. Gardner spent with me during my first visit, calming me and explaining my illness. I keep this in mind when he is running a little behind schedule.
The wait time is always excessive. Appointment time was 11:30, finally done and leaving at 3:15.
We love Dr Gardner and his nurse Lois....the only complaint we have is the wait time.....the last appointment we had was 1pm...we arrived at 12:30 pm and didnt get called in until 3:15pm and disnt see Dr Gardner until 4:30pm.......
I received the information I needed to understand the current status of my on-going pituitary tumor. Staff at all levels and positions were great. UPMC clinic was busy, hospital time is what it is so we bring books.
Dr. Gardner and his staff have been excellent with my health concerns. I am totally pleased with this health care provider.
Always pleasant and easy to talk to. Generally seems to care about my health and how my surgery affected me.
The wait time once you're in the office and the nurse has left to get the resident or PA then til Dr. Gardner himself comes in is so long.
the only complaint is having to wait 3 hours to see the doctor
Dr. Gardner is articulate, professional, and direct. A good communicator. A good listener. He is at the top of his field, but not arrogant. I'd let him date my sister.
Dr Garner is the only Dr I trust with my condition. He has helped me lead a normal life with quality.
Very glad that Dr Gardner preformed my surgery... He is wonderful! AND a great dresser!
Not only did Dr. Gardner do what other doctors said couldn't be done. He gave me my life back.
Great doc to talk with - easy to communicate and respectful toward my nursing background.
Dr Gardner is an exceptional Nuerosurgeon and his care for me five years ago during two skull based craniectomies is the reason I am here today. I travelled from Connecticut after an unsuccessful surgery to be in Dr Gardner's care. I have come back ever since for follow up appointments. I am truly thankful to be in Dr Gardners care.
I just want to add that Dr. Gardner is a very skilled surgeon, and I feel lucky to have experienced his expertise.
Doctors Gardner, Challinor, Snyderman and staff seemed to have covered every detail of my pituitary problem. I trusted my life to these people and they gave me 110%. Awesome people.
Dr. Gardner is great! Juliana is wonderful! All the staff is very nice an professional
Excellent experience. Dr. Gardener even took the time to respond to my email questions after hours, and was one of the many reasons why we came to see. him. He is a top notch.
I am extremely satisfied with my experience at UPMC. Dr. Gardner and his team did a great job. Can't thank him enough for the excellent surgery and amazing post-op care.
Dr Gardner is exceptional and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Dr. Gardner is awesome.
I felt he should of talked to me more about the surgery I was there to inquire about. It was like if I wasn't ready to have it today no need to talk about it.
This was a follow up check up to make sure there was no reoccurrence and everything was still good. Everyone was polite, kind and patient. A little more waiting then usual but stuff happens. Other times there wasn't so much waiting. I am glad that Dr. Gardner was my surgeon. He explained everything and why things were done the way they were.
I was very pleased to find such caring doctors and staff to help me with my medical problems. I feel confident in having surgery with Dr. Gardner and Dr. Hirsch, They both have helped to ease my fears and concerns....
The whole visit was professional from the Valet to the Doctor.
I feel rushed during these visits. I know he is busy, but I feel that I should get to spend more time discussing.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with a Chordoma tumor and Dr. Gardener and his staff operated on me five times and saved my life! On the advise of Dr. Gardener I went to Boston Massachusetts General Hospital for Proton and Photon radiation treatments (2 1/2 month stay in Boston and 38 total radiation treatments) as a follow-up to my surgeries. My experience with Dr. Gardener and Dr. Snyderman (ENT UPMC) have been above and beyond anything that I could possibly expect. I am sorry that I was diagnosed with cancer, however, my family and I are extremely grateful that we met Dr. Gardener and Dr. Snyderman and their staffs of professionals!
I spent more time describing my condition with the Dr's PA more than with him. When he came in, he seemed to be in a hurry, he did answer and address the concern I was there for, however he could have spent more time going through my MRI results with me.
The entire staff of the clinic and Dr. Gardner are wonderful. Lois and Michelle have been extrodinarily kind throughout my entire process. I was amazed after my surgery to see Dr. Gardner at my bedside after 9pm after what I'm sure was a long surgery day. All are definitely in the profession for the right reasons and truly care about their patient's outcomes
Dr.Paul Gardner is an excellant neurosurgeon and he also was my doctor when I had my stroke he is very caring and well knowledable with my perticular needs and proiblems feel very safe and care for with him.
Dr. Gardner and staff took time to listen and address any concerns I had, and to make sure everyone was on the same track for my treatment plan.
Dr. Garner and his staff are wonderful.
Everyone was very gracious as we and many other patients were running late due to the snow storm.
Dr. Gardner is a very good doctor.
Dr, Gardner has been my dr. for 8 years. He is a GREAT Dr. & a wonderful/caring person!
Very attentive, showed concern, friendly and confident in hospital and surgical procedures.
Dr.Paul Gardner is an exellent Dr. and neorosureon. I'll ever be gratefull to him for doing such a great job with my surgery!!
Dr. Gardner saved my life.........the best neurosurgeon anyone could ever ask for!
Very thorough, professional and effective. Would recommend Dr Gardner strongly.
We have had nothing but positive experiences with Dr Gardners office
Dr Gardner and staff have always treated me wonderfully and I recommend them to anyone who is going through neurological problems.
dr gardner is awesome! he correctly diagnosed the source of a pressure headache I was having as a genetic condition. he was willing (and very able) to perform the surgery I needed and I am back to my life! I had trouble getting anyone else to make the diagnosis
Everyone was extremely helpful saw a different provider and a different network before coming here and this was by far much better experience.
I have always had great care when visiting Dr. Gardner's office.
Dr. Gardner did a great job and I always be thankful for what he did and the quality of care we recivied during my hospitalization.
I was reffered to DR Gardner the same day I had an appointment with DR Snyderman. Although I did not have an appointment with DR Gardner, I was seen right away. He treated me with the utmost respect and concern for my condition. The same can be said for his entire staff.
Dr. Gardner is an excellent physician/surgeon. I am always completely satisfied with his service. I value his recommendations and suggestions.
Dr Gardener is very thorough and caring regarding my complex condition. I'm happy to have him as a central part of my health care team.
Dr. Gardner is an excellent Neurosurgeon and I travel from Connecticut to see him for follow up visits, after he successfully removed a hemangioblastoma in 2012. I recommend him whole heartedly.
Julianna is wonderful, friendly, concerned about my condition, works over time to get me the test and care I need. Thank you very much. Dr Gardner is just a great person and Dr. tells me just what I am going through and asks what if anything I need.
very good dr and staff
Dr. Gardner is excellent.
The care from the dr was adequate.
My grandfather was admitted to the hospital while I was also at my visit. The staff worked with me so that I was able to run to another part of the hospital and check on him before getting me in to see Dr. Gardner. I am very thankful for that.
I was very appreciative of the quick responses I received from Dr. Gardner's office when I asked them a few questions prior to my appointment via the UPMC Health Trak website. Also, even though there was a wait time to see Dr. Gardner for my appointment I want to say that I didn't mind at all. I can appreciate how busy he is and know that he will spend as much time as needed with me for my appointment once he is able. Thanks!
I drive from Louisville,KY to see Dr Gardner. I would not consider seeing another Dr. He is always very kind and calm. He never seems like he is rushed when he sees me and spends time explaining everything. I have to wait longer in his office due to the fact that he is taking care and seeing patients with serious Neuro problems. He may have to spend more time with someone due to the complexity of their neurological problem, so I in turn may have to wait a little longer. UPMC is very lucky to have him on their staff.
I highly recommend Dr. Gardner. He is an excellent doctor who listens to and respects his patients.
Dr. Gardner shows true concern for what you have gone through. I heard he was one of the best in his field, and since my surgery was unexpected, I could not have asked for better results.
exceptional care and professionalism. The best
Dr. Gardner was kind enough to squeeze me in as a patient referral from another doctor on the same day. Although it meant a long wait in the waiting room, I appreciate the consideration given me.
My appointment felt more like a police interrogation than a doctor's appointment. The intern and doctor that seen me badgered me with questions about medical records and minimized the symptoms I was experiencing.
The provider explained what he would do about my problem and all the information I needed. All my questions were answered and he took his time and did not hurry the visit. I made up my mind about the surgery based on this visit.
Dr. Gardner saw me after a "quick call" from Dr. Hirsch's office. I didnt have a scheduled appointment and he met with me and provided an excellent educational session on my condition and options I have for treatment. He was very kind even though I was emotional during the session. I work for UPMC Children's and between him and Dr. Hirsch, I was proud to be part of the system that seemed to really treat me the person by saving me to the time of having to make another appointment. They were respectful of my time and my concerns
