Dr. Robert Safier joined the University of Pittsburgh in September 2005 to serve as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology in the Division of Child Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University in 1991. He received his M.D. degree from Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1999. This opportunity to learn medicine in a non-US setting served to strengthen his interest in diverse patient populations and cultures and to help him appreciate varying medical care delivery systems. He completed his training in Pediatrics at MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH in 2002. At the completion of his Pediatric Residency, he was awarded the resident Good Fellow Award, which is selected by junior residents for being an outstanding senior resident for dedication and service towards his colleagues. He completed his training in Child Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in 2005. During his final year, he was awarded the Child Neurology Society Outstanding Junior Member Award, which is chosen by the Scientific Selection Committee as an outstanding junior member presenting an abstract. Dr. Safier had two abstracts presented during that annual meeting in Los Angeles, CA in 2005.
Dr. Safier is highly skilled as an educator and is the Director of Medical Student Education for the Division of Child Neurology. As both Clinical Neurosciences Child Neurology Clerkship Director and as Child Neurology elective Course Director he is committed to teaching and mentoring medical students. On the graduate medical education level, Dr. Safier is involved in the clinical education of child neurology residents. As an active member on the Child Neurology Education Committee, he developed new Clinical Neurosciences Clerkship structures within the Division of Child Neurology. His mentorship directly influenced medical students to choose the field of child neurology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and nationally.
Dr. Safier is recognized as an excellent general clinical child neurologist and regularly receives high praises from his patients and their families. His main research interest is studying the clinical and radiological presentation of hemiplegic migraine of childhood to better understand the pathophysiology. Since July 2005, Dr. Safier serves one day a week as the staff neurologist at Polk State Home, a campus for adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Dr. Safier has been a leader in various clinical quality improvement projects within the Division of Child Neurology and at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

We are so glad that Dr. Safier is our daughter's neurologist. He has provided the care and medication possible to make her first two years of high school free of any absences which is remarkable due to the severity of her migraines before becoming his patient.
Dr. Safier has always been an excellent provider for my daughter. Any time I had questions for him, his nurse got back to me right away.
The office visit was great and the first time we had been to that location to see that particular doctor. Everyone was very nice and helpful.
We always receive the best of care at Pine Center. From registration to the nurse to the Doctor. We always have the best treatment.
Great these people are professionals! Thank you!
Both the nurse and Dr Safier took the time to talk to us about our concerns and we talked in a manner we could understand. They also took the time to talk to our son and made sue he understood what they were doing.
We have been seeing Dr Safier since my son was 2 and have been happy from day one. At this appointment I had more questions and concerns than usual, and Dr Safier took plenty of time to discuss them and make a plan for my son. He did not rush us (even though it was obviously a very busy day) and seemed genuinely concerned for the issues my son is having. We usually have fairly quick appointments because they're so routine (every 6 months, but rarely new issues to discuss). This appointment ran a bit longer than the norm because of how much extra time Dr Safier took to go over our concerns. We highly recommend Dr Safier to anyone who needs a friendly, caring and knowledgeable pediatric neurologist!
We were greeted with a warm smile from the moment we entered the building. When we were waiting on the Dr. we were assisted by a nurse who made eye contact, spoke with my daughter and I, engaged with my daughter and made her feel comfortable. It was a pleasure to have visited
This was the third physician we saw with your group. Each physician we saw was wonderful, but our care was transferred due to your fellow leaving and then again when we could not get and appointment with Dr. Naik. Dr. Safier was great with us. He knew my daughters history which put me at ease. I left the office with a plan in place and feel very confident in the care she received.
We come to Pine Center every six months. We always received excellent care by everybody from registration to nurse to physician.Dr Robert Safier is the best doctor. He treats my daughter so good. We've been coming to him for ten years now.I couldnt or wouldnt want any other physician.,

This was our first visit at this facility and with Dr.Safier. There was nothing that could have been done to make this visit any better. Excellent service !
great staff best experience at dr office we have ever had
Absolutely the best doctor we've had! we love Dr. Safier.
Dr. Safier is a wonderful and caring doctor. He is very knowledgable and competent in his profession. He shows genuine concern for the patient and family. He answered all my questions thoroughly. Both he and his nurse Jennifer Garner, who I've spoken to many times over the phone, are both terrific. They are both caring and dedicated professionals.
Dr. Safier always makes my child feel comfortable and engages with him at his level. Dr. Safier takes the time to listen to concerns and explain the exam process and testing. We have every confidence in his abilities.
