Brief Summary of Lecture: Dr. Mahajan will provide an update on the current epidemiology of serious bacterial infections in young febrile infants, demonstrate the absence of evidence supporting the currently used evaluation and management guidelines, demonstrate current evidence on the test performance of screening tests as well as introduce the audience to newer host-based RNA responses called Biosignatures to help understand the etiology as well as pathophysiology of the immune response which then provides the basis for a paradigm shifting notion of potentially replacing the current suboptimal reference standard i.e. cultures for the diagnosis of SBI.
