Brief Summary of Lecture: Dr. Marazita will describe the research carried out by the Center for Oral Health in Appalachia (COHRA) focusing on factors contributing to oral health and disease in Appalachian children, primarily related to childhood dental caries (cavities). COHRA is a long-standing collaboration between the dental schools of the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University, plus other collaborations with the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina. Dr. Marazita will review the COHRA cohort studies, plus the genetic, behavioral, and microbiology ecology studies carried out in the COHRA cohorts.
