Third Year Fellow

Hometown: Sullivan, IN

College/Medical School: Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN / Indiana University School of Medicine

Residency: Indiana University School of Medicine

Career/Research Interests: In addition to my fellowship responsibilities and pursuing my MPH at University of Pittsburgh, I am working as a post-doctoral research fellow in Dr. Celedon’s lab at Rangos Research Center. The group studies the effects of environmental exposures such as vitamin D status, traffic-related air pollution and stress on asthma in a cohort of Puerto Rican children. My project will involve conducting data analyses to study the association of maternal stress, preterm birth and subsequent pulmonary outcomes including asthma. In addition to studying these associations we will look for epigenetic changes such as DNA methylation that mediate these effects. My hope is that I will be able to continue this research in the future applying similar analysis techniques on birth cohorts to identify infants predisposed to outcomes of interest such as Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia or Necrotizing Enterocolitis so that we can intervene earlier in their course.
