Supplementing learning from direct patient contact, Pediatric Nephrology Fellows at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will participate in didactic lectures, conferences, and journal clubs, and will develop a Quality Improvement project.
Weekly fellows lecture A weekly didactic lecture given by renal faculty covering all major aspects of clinical pediatric nephrology including dialysis, transplantation, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and glomerular, tubular, congenital and cystic diseases of the kidney.
Weekly inpatient care conference All renal fellows and division faculty members meet weekly to discuss patients on inpatient service as well as interesting and difficult-to-manage outpatients.
Renal pathology Monthly conference where renal fellows and renal faculty discuss biopsies from the previous month with the pediatric renal pathologist.
NURAG (Nephrology/Urology/Research Affinity Group) A bimonthly joint conference of the division of nephrology, the division of urology, and basic and clinical researchers involved in renal and urological research. This conference allows the exchange of ideas and to establish collaborations among a diverse group of clinicians and scientists with interest in renal and urological diseases.
Journal club A monthly journal club where renal fellows present a critical analysis of the latest published research in nephrology.
Rheumatology/Nephrology A bimonthly combined conference between the divisions of pediatric nephrology and pediatric rheumatology discussing clinical topics relating to both fields.
Transplant patient care conference A weekly transplant care conference including lab review, review of patients seen in transplant clinic and all patients who had blood drawn during the week.
Transplant selection committee A monthly interdisciplinary conference including transplant surgery, pediatric nephrology, transplant coordinators, transplant social work, transplant behavioral health, pharmacy, and floor nurses, where patients are presented for transplant.
Transplant quality improvement A bimonthly interdisciplinary conference focusing on processes for improving the quality of care.
Dialysis interdisciplinary meeting A monthly interdisciplinary team meeting including both Quality Improvement and patient care.
Pediatric Grand Rounds Weekly seminar with internal and external speakers on a variety of pediatric clinical and research topics
Children’s Hospital Molecular Medicine Series Weekly seminar with internal and external experts on a variety of clinical, translational, and basic research topics.
