Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program

Medicine-Pediatrics Residency ProgramCombined training in Medicine-Pediatrics allows residents to pursue both fields with eventual dual-board certification and a rewarding career encompassing the care of both adults and children. Residents trained in Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) are in high demand and find that they have multiple job opportunities. Many work in multispecialty groups with pediatricians, internists, family practitioners and other Med-Peds-trained physicians. Many choose careers in
academic medicine.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Medicine-Pediatrics Program aspires to prepare physicians for the new practice environment, which emphasizes the primary care of a wide variety of patients. In response to increasing educational emphasis on ambulatory training, we have developed a wide array of outpatient experiences for our house officers.

Residents receive comprehensive training in the care of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Our program also emphasizes preventive medicine, medical ethics, health care delivery and management of common psychosocial problems. Throughout the year, Med-Peds residents meet with faculty members to discuss programmatic issues and have their own didactic teaching sessions and social gatherings.
